Who may dwell with God: read the whole list before you answer David asks who may dwell in God's sanctuary, then lists a life of complete integrity: blameless walk, truth spoken in the heart, no slander, promises kept even when they hurt, no exploiting the poor. Some read this as a checklist for earning entrance to heaven. Set it beside Psalm 14, which David just wrote: there is no one who does good, no, not one. If verse after verse of Psalm 15 were the price of admission, the door would never open for anyone. Read it instead two ways at once. First, it is a portrait of the character of Christ, the only One who kept it perfectly and now stands in for us. Second, it describes the life God's Spirit grows in those He has already welcomed. The gift comes first; the walk follows.
2 He who walks blamelessly does what is right, and speaks truth in his heart;
3 He who doesn’t slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his friend, nor casts slurs against his fellow man;
4 In whose eyes a vile man is despised, but who honors those who fear Yahweh; he who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and doesn’t change;
5 he who doesn’t lend out his money for usury, nor take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be shaken.
