God, you are my God. I will earnestly seek you. My soul thirsts for you. My flesh longs for you, in a dry and weary land, where there is no water.

Turn your thirst toward God, do not numb it David writes from a wilderness, and he uses the dry land as a mirror of his heart: my soul thirsts for you, my flesh longs for you. Here is the instructive move. He does not try to quench the ache with lesser things; he turns the thirst itself into a prayer and seeks God earnestly. Many believers panic when they feel spiritually dry, as if the dryness proved something was wrong with their faith. David treats thirst as a compass, not a verdict. It points him to the only fountain that satisfies. Jesus said the one who believes in him will never thirst, and promised living water welling up to eternal life (John 4:14). Your dry seasons are not disqualifications; they are invitations. Bring the thirst to him rather than trying to make it go away on your own.
So I have seen you in the sanctuary, watching your power and your glory.
Because your loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise you.

Loving kindness better than life fuels worship that is delight, not duty Because your loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise you. Sit with that scale for a moment. David weighs God's steadfast love against his own breath and heartbeat, and God's love wins. Once a person truly believes that, praise stops being a chore and becomes a natural overflow. He lifts his hands, blesses God, and thinks of him in the sleepless night watches. Notice the direction of cause and effect: the worship flows because the love came first. This is the opposite of trying to work up devotion by willpower. Paul says nothing in life or death can separate us from the love of God in Christ (Romans 8:38-39). When you are sure that love is better than life itself, and that it cannot be lost, delight replaces duty and joy does the work that guilt never could.
So I will bless you while I live. I will lift up my hands in your name.
My soul shall be satisfied as with the richest food. My mouth shall praise you with joyful lips,
when I remember you on my bed, and think about you in the night watches.
For you have been my help. I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings.
My soul stays close to you. Your right hand holds me up.
But those who seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
They shall be given over to the power of the sword. They shall be jackal food.
But the king shall rejoice in God. Everyone who swears by him will praise him, for the mouth of those who speak lies shall be silenced.
