1 Save me, God, by your name. Vindicate me in your might.

3 For strangers have risen up against me. Violent men have sought after my soul. They haven’t set God before them. Selah.
4 Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is the one who sustains my soul.

The turn from the threat to the helper is faith in one small word: Behold. Verse 4 is the pivot of this short psalm: Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the one who sustains my soul. The enemies have not vanished; verse 3 still stands, violent men are still seeking David's life. Nothing in the circumstances has changed. What changes is where David is looking. That single word Behold is like a hand on the shoulder saying, stop and see this. This is what faith often looks like in practice, not the absence of danger but a deliberate shift of gaze from the threat to the God who helps. Notice too that God is named helper and sustainer, one who carries David rather than merely coaching him to carry himself. When you are outnumbered, you do not have to manufacture courage; you can turn your eyes, like David, to the one who sustains the soul.
5 He will repay the evil to my enemies. Destroy them in your truth.
6 With a free will offering, I will sacrifice to you. I will give thanks to your name, Yahweh, for it is good.
7 For he has delivered me out of all trouble. My eye has seen triumph over my enemies.
