Not to us, Yahweh, not to us, but to your name give glory, for your loving kindness, and for your truth’s sake.
Why should the nations say, “Where is their God, now?”
But our God is in the heavens. He does whatever he pleases.
Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
They have mouths, but they don’t speak. They have eyes, but they don’t see.
They have ears, but they don’t hear. They have noses, but they don’t smell.
They have hands, but they don’t feel. They have feet, but they don’t walk, neither do they speak through their throat.
Those who make them will be like them; yes, everyone who trusts in them.

We become like what we worship, so choose the living God. The psalm makes a striking claim: those who make idols will be like them, and so will everyone who trusts them. Worship is never neutral. A dead thing you lean on leaves your soul dead, blind, and deaf, because you grow into the shape of what you trust. Paul draws on the same truth when he says we are changed into the image of what we behold (2 Corinthians 3:18). Someone may object that they trust no carved idol, so this does not apply. But an idol is anything you rely on in God's place: money, reputation, your own strength. The cure is not trying harder to be alive; it is turning your trust to the living God who sees, hears, and acts. Trust Him and you come alive, because you become like the One you behold.
Israel, trust in Yahweh! He is their help and their shield.
House of Aaron, trust in Yahweh! He is their help and their shield.
You who fear Yahweh, trust in Yahweh! He is their help and their shield.
Yahweh remembers us. He will bless us. He will bless the house of Israel. He will bless the house of Aaron.
He will bless those who fear Yahweh, both small and great.

His blessing rests on trust, and it reaches the small as surely as the great. Three times the psalm cries, trust in Yahweh, He is their help and their shield. Then the promise pours out: He will bless those who fear Him, both small and great. Grace is not measured out by how impressive you are. The least noticed person in the room receives the same shield as the greatest. Notice the ground of the blessing is trust, not achievement. A shield does not protect you because you are strong; it protects you because you take shelter behind it. This is exactly how eternal life comes to us: not earned by the worthy, but received by faith and held out freely to empty hands. If you have ever felt too small to matter to God, this verse answers you plainly. Small and great, He blesses all who simply trust Him.
May Yahweh increase you more and more, you and your children.
Blessed are you by Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.
The heavens are the heavens of Yahweh; but the earth has he given to the children of men.
The dead don’t praise Yah, neither any who go down into silence;
But we will bless Yah, from this time forward and forever more. Praise Yah!
