The high God who stoops Who is like Yahweh, our God, who has his seat on high, who stoops down to see in heaven and in the earth? This is one of Scripture's great pictures of God's character, and it holds two truths together that we tend to split apart. He is utterly exalted, high above all nations, His glory above the heavens, and yet He bends low to notice the lowest. Some imagine a distant, indifferent deity, but the true God is high precisely so He can stoop far. This is the very movement of the gospel: though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor (2 Corinthians 8:9). The Son who shares the highest throne stooped all the way to a manger and a cross. The God worth adoring is not too great to care about you. His greatness is exactly what makes His nearness so amazing.
7 He raises up the poor out of the dust. Lifts up the needy from the ash heap;
8 that he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
9 He settles the barren woman in her home, as a joyful mother of children. Praise Yah!
