The Lord David calls Lord Yahweh says to my Lord, Sit at my right hand. Jesus used this single verse to silence His critics (Matthew 22:41 to 46). If the Messiah is merely David's son, why does David, under the Spirit, call Him Lord? The only answer is that Messiah is both David's descendant and David's divine superior, the eternal Son. The invitation to sit at God's right hand is a coronation, the place of highest honor and shared rule. And the word until does not mean His reign ends when the enemies are subdued, it means His victory is certain and progressive. The New Testament sees this fulfilled in the risen, ascended Christ (Acts 2:34 to 35, Hebrews 1:13). For assurance this matters enormously: the One who gives you eternal life is not petitioning from the outer courts, He is enthroned. Your salvation rests on a King already seated in the place of finished, accepted victory.
2 Yahweh will send out the rod of your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of your enemies.
3 Your people offer themselves willingly in the day of your power, in holy array. Out of the womb of the morning, you have the dew of your youth.
4 Yahweh has sworn, and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

A priest forever, sworn by an oath Yahweh has sworn, and will not change his mind: You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews builds an entire argument for eternal security on this verse. Because the priesthood rests on an unbreakable divine oath, Christ holds an office that never expires, and therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, since he always lives to intercede for them (Hebrews 7:24 to 25). A common objection says a believer can still be lost through failure. But your standing does not depend on a priest who dies and must be replaced, nor on your own repeated effort. It rests on a priest whose life has no end and whose appointment God has sworn never to revoke. He offered one sacrifice for sins forever and sat down. Since his priesthood cannot end, the salvation he secures cannot end either.
5 The Lord is at your right hand. He will crush kings in the day of his wrath.
6 He will judge among the nations. He will heap up dead bodies. He will crush the ruler of the whole earth.
7 He will drink of the brook on the way; therefore he will lift up his head.
