Gladness, Not Grim Duty Serve Yahweh with gladness. The psalm assumes that knowing God makes people glad, and it calls every land into that joy. This is worth pausing on, because many carry a quiet suspicion that real devotion should feel like a heavy chore. Scripture pushes back. Nehemiah 8:10 says the joy of the Lord is your strength. Joy here is not the reward earned by a good performance; it is the natural air of people who know whose they are. If your walk with God has turned joyless and grim, the problem is not too little effort but a forgotten truth about how good He is. Come before His presence with singing, because the invitation itself is grace.
3 Know that Yahweh, he is God. It is he who has made us, and we are his. We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

His People, His Sheep It is He who made us, and we are His, the sheep of His pasture. Feel the relief in those words. You did not make yourself, and you do not keep yourself. Sheep are neither clever nor strong, but they are cared for. That is the identity offered here: not self made and self sustaining, but owned and kept by a good Shepherd. This is the ground of assurance. John 10:28 and 29 say no one snatches Christ's sheep from His hand or the Father's. Your security is His grip on you, not your grip on Him. Eternal life is held not by the strength of your hold but by the faithfulness of the Shepherd who chose you.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name.
5 For Yahweh is good. His loving kindness endures forever, his faithfulness to all generations.
