Salvation is something God becomes for us, so we trust and are unafraid. This short song of joy captures the believer's confidence. Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust, and will not be afraid, for Yah, Yahweh, is my strength and song, and he has become my salvation. Salvation here is not a task the singer accomplishes; it is what God himself becomes for the one who trusts. The fruit of resting in that truth is fearlessness and joy, drawing water from the wells of salvation. The Free Grace reader hears the assurance ringing clear. Because salvation is God's own doing and gift, the believer can say it is settled and sing about it now, not merely hope it might work out if he tries hard enough. Some treat assurance as presumption, as if no one may be sure. But the song is sung by a person who says God has become my salvation, a present possession worth celebrating, not a bargain still being struck.
3 Therefore with joy you will draw water out of the wells of salvation.
4 In that day you will say, “Give thanks to Yahweh! Call on his name. Declare his doings among the peoples. Proclaim that his name is exalted!
5 Sing to Yahweh, for he has done excellent things! Let this be known in all the earth!
